Pilgrimage
"It is more than just a training camp; it’s a right of passage among foreign fighters that symbolizes that they have come of age in the Muay Thai world."
sityodtong camp, pattaya
I have been in Thailand for work this week and since I seem to have a little bit of time this morning, I thought I'd quickly put this post in before the colourful details of my great visit to Sityodtong in Pattaya escape me.
When I first knew that I would be coming to Thailand for work, I didn't think much of it. Not that I don't absolutely love Thailand to begin with - it's one of my favourite countries to visit - but it was just going to be another work trip to me. But when I realized I'd be coming to Pattaya - the true home of Sityodtong Muay Thai and Evolve - I got very excited indeed.

See you on the slopes
It seems like just yesterday the four of us were at Mt Buller on our one-day ski trip. I had gone to ski school for a couple of hours with Ga, after which we then spent the rest of the day snow ploughing down the icy mountain. But then the evening came and we had to pack it in and drive down the mountain again.
This year, we decided we'd spend more time on the mountain. And to commemorate this snowy reunion, we attempted to 'date' our picture manually. Please refer to picture bove for our version of 2010-7.
So things were really different this year....

Hubba with good pal Jon & his babies
Part of our trip away Down Under was spent bonding with family and old friends - We spent some time cycling with Hubba's ol' bike pal Jon, who now lives in Melbourne with his family, and spent some time in their home with his wife Justine - who graciously loaned me her bike whilst I was there - and kids too.
Funnily enough, the trip was like a little trial run for us....
Happy Birthday to my HubbaBubba
my superhero
A couple of weeks ago, Hubba celebrated his 31st birthday. And in his usual manner, he quietly let the day come and go without bothering too much about it. That's Hubba for you.
But I didn't want to let it go without a little bit of fuss at least!
So I called up a small bunch of good mates whom I know mean a lot to him and got them together for a celebratory burger. (Yup, age is catching up and we didn't even have a beer.)
He was really happy - I could just see it in his eyes.
And that made me really happy indeed.
Watching your loved ones happy is just one of life's greatest gifts, don't you think?
Thanks to all our lovely friends who played a big part in lighting up his day!!
More pictures after the jump!

Taxi Thought
I passed an old friend's place today and thought of her.
How did our lives go from being from so intertwined to so separate? Life tore us apart as quickly as we were brought together.
Did it all mean nothing at all?
Life eh? Can be so unpredictable sometimes. But sometimes it all turns out for the best.
Still - Never hurts to cherish whatever you have.
In Need of a Hit…. of Adrenalin
A couple of weeks ago, Hubba raced the Safra Avventura 2010 with my bike bud, Angela.
It was a race I'd been eyeing since the 3rd quarter of last year but that I knew I had to absolutely rule out once I got told I had a slipped disc. Gutted was I indeed so I kept quiet and didn't bother talking to Hubba about racing it with me. Then as luck would have it, a slot opened up when Angie's race buddy couldn't make it at the last minute. So suddenly, there were two Sotongs racing :)
Needless to say I felt so envious that Hubba was racing - I wanted to go too! But in truth, I was also glad he was finally getting out there in the sun and doing some running around. He's been so cooped up of late 'coz of everything he has got on his plate. Fellow supporter Chancho and I drove around using Google Latitude to try to locate our two wandering Sotongs, who were trying to stay in touch with us via iphone. The weather was scorching and there wasn't much shade available, so we stopped at 7-Eleven and stocked up with goodies to help our Sotongs sustain!
And to be honest, it felt good just being out there and watching my friends race and come in with smiles (albeit strained ones) on their faces.

well done, guys!
a girlie shot - you can't even tell who raced and who didn't
If there's one thing I've realized throughout all that's happened in the past few months, it's that I'm not giving up on the dream. I want to jump off bridges again, to scale walls and waterfalls and flying fox into rivers and stuff again. I really miss it all. The adrenalin, the fun, the company of friends amid adversity, the satisfaction of crossing a finishing line and all that jazz. There's a part of me that'll remember those moments with much fondness, and who knows.... that part of me also hopes to make more of those moments!

A Day in the Park
if only everyday were this green
If there's one thing I love more than anything in the world, it's being close to nature and being surrounded by green.
Don't get me wrong. I love beaches, I love the skies but show me a garden full of leaves and a smile just breaks on my face. My brother used to tell me when I was a kid that gazing at trees soothes your eyes and calms your mood and being little, I thought it was a whole lot of drivel. But now that I am fast becoming an old hag, I must admit I think he was right all along!
So we took the dogs off to the park over the weekend and I just felt like I was transported into a whole different world. The city fell away and suddenly this whole paradise opened up to us.

Sigh, I want to go back again... Needless to say, the doggies loved being out with us and Sally even chased a few pigeons!
Ciao Bella
Last November, a few of us girlies took Angela out to Donna Carmela to celebrate her birthday.
It was a small and intimate affair and it was lovely to see that she loved her gifts and we all have a really nice evening catching up and talking girl things.
Funny how we're all of varying ages... if you think about it!
