A Different Tri, A Whole New Challenge
This week, I enter a totally different type of tri.
A trimester. My second trimester.
For weeks, I’ve wanted to write about how I’ve been feeling but I’ve had to keep mum (no pun intended). The fact is a few months ago, I realized I had signed up for one of the greatest challenges of my life – one which would involve a carefully thought out yet aggressive hydration and nutrition plan, a different type of endurance training and a higher threshold for pain altogether. Not to mention swapping two-wheels for four, of the buggy push-chair variety.
The last time I did a full-on serious workout was at Sityodtong in Thailand. I’d had almost three hours of punching and kicking and had come home feeling really chuffed and inspired to train even harder. But that all changed once I’d wee-ed on a stick and realized I would soon have something punching and kicking me from the inside. It was a surreal experience seeing that first “plus” sign staring up at me – Hubba had come home from work to his wife bearing gifts from Thailand. Of these gifts, I’d included a little red envelope containing the said stick and when he opened it, he just couldn’t believe it.
Needless to say we were overjoyed but I don’t think it really sunk in for the first few days. We kept looking at each other and saying, “Is it real? Could it be true?” And it wasn’t until we saw the OBGYN a few days later that we allowed ourselves to indulge in the good news.
We are going to be parents! How freaky deaky is that?
We shared the good news with the doggies, and maybe I wasimagining it but I don’t think Sally was thrilled at the thought of not being the baby anymore.
I have had a tough few months – I’ve had to say goodbye to Muay Thai and FightShape for awhile, and up till a few weeks ago I spent almost all day and night everyday feeling seasick. This has subsided though and now that I’m coming into my second trimester, I seem to have a little more energy and I want to channel that into getting a bit more active again.
There are so many do’s and don’ts with pregnancy and with the help of Tracey Mallett’s Super Fit Mama, I will endeavour to strike a good balance with some exercise whilst keeping my little Olive safe.
Let little Olive’s Journey begin.
