A Different Tri, A Whole New Challenge

This week, I enter a totally different type of tri.

A trimester. My second trimester.

For weeks, I’ve wanted to write about how I’ve been feeling but I’ve had to keep mum (no pun intended). The fact is a few months ago, I realized I had signed up for one of the greatest challenges of my life – one which would involve a carefully thought out yet aggressive hydration and nutrition plan, a different type of endurance training and a higher threshold for pain altogether. Not to mention swapping two-wheels for four, of the buggy push-chair variety.

The last time I did a full-on serious workout was at Sityodtong in Thailand. I’d had almost three hours of punching and kicking and had come home feeling really chuffed and inspired to train even harder. But that all changed once I’d wee-ed on a stick and realized I would soon have something punching and kicking me from the inside. It was a surreal experience seeing that first “plus” sign staring up at me – Hubba had come home from work to his wife bearing gifts from Thailand. Of these gifts, I’d included a little red envelope containing the said stick and when he opened it, he just couldn’t believe it.

Needless to say we were overjoyed but I don’t think it really sunk in for the first few days. We kept looking at each other and saying, “Is it real? Could it be true?” And it wasn’t until we saw the OBGYN a few days later that we allowed ourselves to indulge in the good news.

We are going to be parents! How freaky deaky is that?

We shared the good news with the doggies, and maybe I wasimagining it but I don’t think Sally was  thrilled at the thought of not being the baby anymore.

I have had a tough few months – I’ve had to say goodbye to Muay Thai and FightShape for awhile, and up till a few weeks ago I spent almost all day and night everyday feeling seasick. This has subsided though and now that I’m coming into my second trimester, I seem to have a little more energy and I want to channel that into getting a bit more active again.

There are so many do’s and don’ts with pregnancy and with the help of Tracey Mallett’s Super Fit Mama, I will endeavour to strike a good balance with some exercise whilst keeping my little Olive safe.

Let little Olive’s Journey begin.

    Hey Janice

    Heartiest Congratulations!

I’ve lurked around for a year or two as well. Am also 31 this year and got married in 2005, so some of your posts on travels, reflections, first house, pets etc are really enjoyable reads. And now this good news! We have started trying for a baby this year as well so I could literally feel your joy through the words.

Congrats once again, enjoy your pregnancy and have a smooth delivery :)

  37. yellow says:

Congrats! Enjoy your second tri – it’s definitely going to be loads better than the first! Great sites to check out (if you haven’t yet) are whattoexpect.com and babycentre.co.uk We were calling our bump Peanut for the longest time until we found out that it was a girl (we’re starting our third tri) – I shall have to remember Olive as an option the next time around! LOL. Look out for pregnancy yoga and water aerobics classes-I suspect you may be able to find these in singapore. None where I am so I’m just walking lots.

  38. Weiling says:

  39. Mary-Ann says:

    Hi Janice,

Nice meeting you at pilates on Saturday. =) Go enjoy yourself during your second trimester, including taking a babymoon. Life will NEVER be the same again after you drop da bomb! By the way, I realised that one of your oldest friends, Sheryl, was my classmate in JC. Small world!

    • Janice says:

Good to meet you too! And yes! Omg I can’t believe you know Sher… And she’s a busy mama now with her new little girl! Such a small world. See you on Saturday!

  40. char says:

Congrats Janice! Really happy for you two, you’re gonna be great parents!

  41. Sarah says:

    Hi Janice

Congratulations! Just read all your posts today and my heart skipped when I learnt you are pregnant! Just feel so very happy for you even though we don’t know each other but really feel that I do know you….I have been wondering when you will have a little Janice or little Andrew coming..and thada…GOD gave you a baby!

I have 2 little rascals now. One is 3 and the other is only 8 months…they turned my life upside down but with the hectic lifestyle, I still feel so super happy everyday..

I believe the same will be for you and your hubby!

Sit tight during these 9 months, will be over before you know it. Eat when you feel hungry and just follow your body needs…I gained a whopping 26kg for my 2nd pregnancy..hah..

If you need anything newborn stuffs etc…I can give…give..give…boys more to give…
