“We are leaving in a minute, Naomi,” I said to my daughter at my grandmother’s wake. “Please go say your goodbyes before we do.”
I’d expected her to head straight to her grandparents to say goodnight and that we were leaving, given it was way past her bedtime. But my sweet five-year-old ran straight up to the other end of the room and all by herself, I saw her quietly peer down through the window of her 太婆’s coffin.
I later asked what she was doing and she said she had gone to say goodnight and goodbye.
Of course she also headed over to her grandparents to do the same but it sure did touch my heart.
